Name/Work Name: Aleph/Tsadi
Canon: Shin Megami Tensei II
Canon Point: Post-Chaos ending and post-Tower of Animus endgame
AU/CRAU: Y, CRAU
Age: 3, appears early 20s
History: This should be enough.
Personality: Aleph is the Messiah for more reasons than just being assigned the label or beating another Messiah for the right to use the term. Aleph is the Messiah because he helps people. Whenever people are in need, he barely needs to be told to go off and fix things for them. He doesn't get a lot of reward for this, and he doesn't need to. It's just the right thing to do. If you asked him why you'd probably get a confused look from him and probably a short sentence like, "It just is."
Aleph does not talk much, in a way. In another way he does. He's constantly in bars chatting people up to hear the plot advancements, but his dialogue options are limited to 'yes' and 'no' and the subject rarely turns to him. What really happens here is that Aleph doesn't talk much about himself. He's the kind of person that other people feel comfortable talking to and open up to, but he keeps his own participation in the conversation to a minimum.
He's very hard to faze and willing to accept what's going on. When a strange old man gives him the power to control demons, the first thing he does is... start contracting with and controlling demons. If he is the Messiah, then he's going to do his duties; if he's fighting God, then he's going to fight God and not be afraid. Mysterious man turns out to be Lucifer? All right, what does Lucifer want to say to him? It is very hard to really come up with something that Aleph can't handle.
Aleph is willing to make a stand and make his decision when it's necessary. When he knows that siding with Lucifer will mean going against Satan and God, two incredibly powerful beings, he chooses this and does not hesitate later or try to run away. He's made his choice, and he's going to carry it out through to the end.
Aleph was taken in by Okamoto while being attacked by demons, and taken under his wing as a gladiator. At that point in time, he was already fighting for his life - the virtual battlers might have been fake, but the tournaments were real, and to the death. Aleph learned very quickly that he could not hesitate if he wanted to survive.
Aleph gets used to helping people largely because people are always coming to him for help. It scarcely takes a moment after he's in Valhalla before Hiroko asks him to accompany her to Madam's mansion, and after Aleph is revealed to be the Messiah, he gets all kinds of orders. When Lucifer himself is making requests of you, you know you're in a position where your assistance is crucial.
Aleph was never an unsympathetic person, but Animus has made Aleph more considerate of the points of view of other people. He only knew a world where God was a tyrant, but after meeting so many people with a just and loving God, he began to want to learn more about the places they came from and their Heavens that were so different from his own. Though their beliefs about Heaven were in direct opposition, he could recognize that they were good people, just like him.
During his time at home, Aleph was usually the only one that people could turn to for help. In Animus there were plenty of powerful people, and so Aleph unlearned the instinct of doing everything himself and learned to rely and cooperate more with other people.
Fighting with a giant dick demon embarrasses him still, as it should.
Debt: Aleph has a curse on himself and his descendants, placed by God Himself, that they'll be continuously reincarnated into lives of torment, eternally born into worlds that are about to end and only able to witness this destruction without preventing it. He'd really like that curse to go away.
Suitability: Aleph is a hard worker, and used to doing menial tasks in the process of working towards a greater goal (protagonists are like that). He's somewhat unhappy about leaving his wife and friends again but is confident that he'll return to be able to visit her, sometime after this very heavy debt is paid. Aleph's well aware of how much lifting a curse from God costs, and will be slaving away for a long time trying to pay that off.
Previous Game Info: The Tower of Animus was a horror jamjar where characters woke up in a dangerous tower to be informed that their worlds had been destroyed and they were the only ones who had been saved. A semi-complete Plot Guide is available here - Aleph was in the Tower from July 2012 to April 2014.
Aleph met (or re-met) two important people shortly after awakening in the Tower. One was Lucifer, the Lucifer from his universe who was pleased to see an Aleph that had sided with him. Throughout his stay in the Tower, Aleph and Lucifer remained on close terms, Aleph being one of Lucifer's few stalwart friends and allies.
The other was April Sinclair. Though they had a brief rough patch when Aleph attempted to rescue her from her self-sacrificing nature by force during an attack by aspace giant whale, they made up from that and grew closer and friendlier through Aleph's entire stay in Animus.
Aleph quickly ran into the issue of others not being happy about his deicide. Rather than hide it, he announced what he'd done publicly over the network to allow others to decide whether they'd continue to associate with him. Enoch, who he'd been on friendly terms with so far, was particularly shocked and distressed, and throughout much of the rest of the game that remained a sore spot they avoided discussing.
When Izanami brought fog into the Tower to create Shadows from people, Aleph encountered his own Shadow, who wished to be a normal person, not a Messiah, who didn't have to kill the people he'd been friends with to save the rest of the world. With some help, Aleph was able to reconcile with that Shadow without fighting it.
He briefly switched bodies with Urotsuki. Thankfully this did not end up with demons being summoned accidentally. During this swap Aleph and April fully made up from their earlier spat.
During October, people needed to collect candy to avoid being turned into their costumes - Aleph did some candy collecting for others here, as well as getting into some fights with those already turned.
January altered people's minds to make them think they'd been in the tower for much longer than they had been. Aleph, who had only spent about half a year outside the tower in the first place, was greatly distressed by the event - after twenty fake years he forgot what the real sun felt like, as well as other small things that he'd been clinging to. The one good thing that came of that is that in their conversation after things returned to normal, Aleph asked April out and she accepted.
Shortly afterwards, his Lucifer left the tower and Enoch's pre-Fallen Lucifel entered, upsetting him further. One of their only allies in the Tower's administration, Dax, was killed, and though Aleph tried to keep his spirits up the event shook everyone, including him.
In late May, when rumors were coming true magically, Aleph was killed for the first time by a teddy bear. Stupid teddy bears.
In June, it was revealed that none of the characters in the tower had their real bodies - they were all inhabiting wireframes, and almost nothing in the tower was actually real, but just covered with a glamour instead. Aleph, who'd been having a rough time and had stayed strong for most of his entire stay, finally broke down and cried over being helpless and not being able to save anyone.
In August Aleph and April married, and thankfully their wedding wasn't crashed by the administrators.
Aleph met Sealand and quickly became friends with him, eventually going so far as to be knighted by him. While searching for a monster to get a sword for Sealand off of, Aleph was killed for the second time in front of him.
Late January/early February, Aleph was one of those who volunteered to help power the tower a little longer. In the process he saw many, many different variants of his life and his future: not only versions of events where he died earlier, or chose Law, but because he reincarnated he saw the variants of his future lives as well. Needless to say it gave him a headache, and he was ticked at the idea of him possibly choosing anything but Chaos.
Shortly before Aleph left the tower, April left the tower to be trapped on her destroyed world, leaving Aleph worried and depressed. He wasn't long behind her.
It took a few months of him being alone on his dead world, but eventually those remaining in the tower were able to save everyone, reviving the worlds of those in the tower and those left stranded. With Zo's last gift to them, Aleph and the rest were able to reunite in a smaller, safer Tower and rejoice that things had turned out okay, for them and for everyone.
CR
Lucifer (Shin Megami Tensei II): The only castmate who actually knew Aleph in the Tower. For Aleph, having Lucifer there was a comfort despite how bad Lucifer is at the whole 'friendship' thing. He had an ally he could trust and rely on, and in return he would come to Lucifer's aid if ever he needed it. Occasionally he confused Lucifer with overtures of friendship like getting him cake. Lucifer's second disappearance from the tower was painful for him.
April Sinclair (Original Character): Aleph's wife. A fellow messiah figure. As they gradually became more comfortable with each other and shared more of themselves, Aleph took to her more and more, culminating in their marriage a year after they met. No one can make him smile like her. Aleph's proud to bear her last name - or, he was before that name was taken from him.
Enoch (El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron): A heavenly scribe, and one of the leaders of the major resistance movement in Animus. No one could doubt that Enoch was a good man, and Aleph was inspired to look more into the God that those who believed in Him and worked in His name followed because of his bravery and strength. Easily someone Aleph put full faith in.
Sealand (Axis Powers Hetalia): A young country full of energy and life. Aleph was knighted by him, and he takes that extremely seriously. Even more seriously than that, Sealand let him into his family, treating him as a brother figure - and Aleph's never had a real sibling before him. Sealand may be a tiny country in the middle of the ocean, but Aleph was thrilled to be able to see it for himself once they reunited.
Naoya (Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor): Cain, aiming to kill the same God that Aleph killed. They bonded well over their shared beliefs, and Naoya often gave good advice - he's level-headed and much, much older and wiser than Aleph himself. Especially on the area of reincarnation, he was the only one Aleph knew to go to.
Lancer (Fate/Zero): A good sparring partner, hunting partner, drinking partner, and whatever else you could possibly ask from an ancient Irish hero. Aleph was quite fond of his company and respected him for his nobility and his strength.
France (Axis Powers Hetalia): Excellent for dancing with. Being not very experienced with such things, quite a bit of France's flirting sailed over his head - though to France's credit, he backed off when Aleph revealed he was already attached.
Hidetoshi Odagiri (Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3): A normal teenager, and one of the few connections to a 'normal' life Aleph had. He dealt remarkably well with all the trauma from the Tower, and Aleph respected him for that.
Jade Strider (Homestuck AU): Responsible for confusing Aleph a lot about pop culture. Regardless of that, fun to hang out with, and Aleph treated her as a good friend.
Asako Minegishi (Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Surivor AU): A less intimidating demon lord than those Aleph knew, though not much less dangerous. They saw eye-to-eye in many regards and Aleph was happy to invite her to his wedding.
Judas Iscariot (Saint Young Men): Helpful in teaching Aleph about some Biblical history when he asked for it, despite reluctance. Also, had a criminally low self-esteem. Aleph doesn't think he's that bad.
Patrick Dawn (Original Character): Again with the criminally poor self-esteem and case of nerves. In this case it's worse because Patrick was one of two captives to permanently die in the Tower - and because he and Aleph were friends Aleph took hearing about his death hard.
Reno (Final Fantasy VII): Someone Aleph could talk to about the risk of making bonds with people only to lose them - also, someone with a good sense of humor, even about Mara. Aleph owes him a drink now that everything's all over.
Inventory: Magic armor (Jipanium set, INT +3 STM +3 MAG +3 SPD +3 with increased resistance to mental, physical, shock and bolt damage), magic sword (Kurikara's Sword, STR +3 INT +1 MAG +2, chance of paralyzing the enemy), magic gun (Peacemaker) with a supply of magic bullets (Carbo Liner, chance of turning enemy to stone), Arm Terminal that allows him to summon the contained demons: Mara, Beelzebub, Shiva, Anubis, Rangda, and Lilim. Five Somas (heals all HP/MP/status ailments) and three Soul Incense (revives dead or dying and heals all HP).
Abilities, Strengths, and Weaknesses: With the aid of an Arm Terminal, Aleph can summon and command demons. At his level of ability, very powerful demons will respond to his negotiations. The six he's bringing are all capable fighters in their own right - this is the team that brought down God, minus Hiroko (his mother) and Lucifer (the devil).
He is a very skilled fighter, at the peak of human ability for strength and speed. He's an excellent negotiator with demons and others, and he has the patience for long sidequests. He doesn't get easily lost even in ridiculously complicated dungeon layouts.
He's also very good at dancing, so good that he can walk into a dance contest halfway through and still handily win.
While he's great at fighting, he's been taught very little else. His stay in the Tower has given him the time to become more literate, but he's still barely educated, especially in areas of history and math and things that weren't immediately useful.
His singing tends to make people believe he's trying to kill them with his voice.
